Peniche region
The Fortaleza – these days a museum. A mix of local archaeology, history of region and exhibitions. It served as a jail for political prisoners. Town’s coastline – walk or drive along the road from Peniche to the Cape Carvoeiro. Barragem De S. Domingos – a beautiful place to relax, walk, cycle or go canoeing. Cape Carvoeiro – probably some of the best sunset views in Portugal. Obidos – a romantic medieval village with 13th-century castle. Labyrinth of picturesque cobblestone streets. Colourful houses filled with flowers. Shops are piled with local handicrafts, delicacies and liqueurs. Boat trip to Berlenga island – natural haven in a virtually unspoiled state. Location of many bird species. Follow the pedestrian walks to the grottoes or to the Fortress. Buddha Eden – another hidden gem. Close to Bombarral town. Many Buddha statues, terracotta warriors, an art sculptures. Plants, trees, fish, birds with the lake in the middle.

Sintra – surreal mixture of history and fantasy. Fairytale palaces, incredible vistas and museum collections. Tomar – city of great charm for its artistic and cultural wealth. The Templar castle & the Convent of Christ is a must. Nazaré – the most famous fishing town in region, possibly in Portugal. Unique in many ways with an atmosphere of times gone. Located on a rocks 100m above, Sitio provides wonderful views over the bay. Lisbon – Europe’s second-oldest capital. Built on a series of hills. Scenic vistas from every angle. Close to sandy beaches. State-of-the-art aquarium. Alcobaca – the Abbey of Santa Maria is in an excellent state of preservation. Centre of a porcelain and pottery industry. Many shops around the central square. Batalha – famous for its magnificent monastery. A stunning stonework and beautiful design. Surrounding the monastery are tailored gardens.
